📹 Highlights from The Sixth Judicial Training on Climate Justice - May 2024

On May 20, 2024, in Mbale, Eastern Uganda, Judicial officers and Magistrates gathered for the sixth annual judicial training program on climate justice, organized by Greenwatch. In partnership with the Judicial Training Institute, this event focused on "Enforcing Environmental Laws in the Age of Climate Crisis," emphasizing the judiciary's crucial role in addressing climate change.

Hon. Justice Godfrey Namundi, Head of the Mbale High Court Circuit, officiated the event and highlighted the importance of making equitable decisions, holding polluters accountable, and the significant greenhouse gas emissions from heavy traffic jams in Kampala. He also addressed the recent floods in Mbale, underlining the urgency of climate action.

Participants included Justice Shakira Bukirwa Ntambi, Registrars, Chief Magistrates, and Magistrates from Eastern Uganda. Expert facilitators like Dr. Peter Mutesasira (UCU) and Eunice M. Asinguza (NEMA) shared valuable insights.

Samantha Atukunda Kakuru Mwesigwa, Director of Greenwatch, thanked the Judicial Training Institute for their support and emphasized Greenwatch's commitment to ensuring a clean and healthy environment for Ugandans. The event concluded with remarks by Hon. Justice Damalie N. Lwanga, Executive Director of the Judicial Training Institute.
