Since 1998, Greenwatch has trained over 200 judicial officers, lawyers, prosecutors, law enforcement officers, and other stakeholders to promote and strengthen the legal and institutional framework for effective environmental management. Our training programs build capacity, foster environmental conservation, and present innovative solutions to emerging environmental challenges.

  1. Judicial Officers Training;

    With the increasing number of environmental cases, Greenwatch recognized the urgent need to develop jurisprudence that promotes the enforcement of environmental laws. Our training equips judicial officers with knowledge and practical skills for adjudicating these cases effectively.

    Key programs;

    • Six Judicial Trainings on Climate Justice (since 2019).

    • Magistrates Training in environmental law and practice; (August 14 - 17 2005).

      • Conducted with the Judicial Training Institute (JTI), Environmental Law Institute (ELI), and NEMA.

    • Judicial Symposium for Supreme Court and Court of Appeal Judges (September 11–13, 2005)

  2. Journalists Training;

    Media plays a pivotal role in raising environmental awareness. In collaboration with the Media Council of Uganda, Greenwatch organized The First Journalist Training on Environment and Climate Change Reporting on the(July 27-28, 2022)Theme: "Covering Climate In The Media Now"
     

  3. Lawyers Training;

    Greenwatch empowers legal professionals to engage in public interest environmental litigation. Key initiatives:

  4. District Environment Officers Training;

    Greenwatch has facilitated the formulation of environmental ordinances and by-laws in various districts, including Tororo, Busia, and Mbale. Our work focuses on:

    • Increasing public participation in natural resource management

    • Enhancing the legal and institutional framework

    • Building the capacity of district officials, NGOs, and community members

    • Partner organizations include: NEMA, district technical committees, local councils, and grassroots leaders
       

  5. Police Officers and Prosecutors Training;

    Training law enforcement officers strengthens the enforcement of environmental regulations. Greenwatch provides practical tools, knowledge, and skills to handle environmental crimes effectively, enhancing justice and accountability.
