Founded in 1995, Greenwatch has been advocating for climate justice, environmental rights and conservation championing the right to a clean and healthy environment for Ugandans as their fundamental right.
In November 2024, 29 years later, Greenwatch decided to go through a fresh rebranding process, unveiling a fresh identity designed to deepen its connection with its partners, communities and other stakeholders to increase visibility, and strengthen our impact in a rapidly evolving landscape of environmental and climate justice advocacy. This rebranding effort introduces a new logo, a refined color palette, and a clear emphasis on three core strategies: Litigation, Advocacy, and Empowerment.
The new logo is central to our new identity, with a circular emblem featuring a green tree with three trunks—a symbol of nature, growth, and the ecological balance that Greenwatch strives to protect. The circle surrounding the tree speaks to the interconnectedness of all environmental efforts and emphasizes unity, a key principle in Greenwatch’s commitment to environmental justice. The organization’s name, “Greenwatch,” is curved around the emblem, suggesting a watchful and protective stance over Uganda’s natural landscape. Every element of the logo has been thoughtfully crafted to communicate Greenwatch’s role as a vigilant watchdog of Uganda’s environment.
The refreshed color palette, anchored by “Greenwatch Green” reinforces our commitment to environmental conservation and sustainability. The choice of vibrant, earthy tones serves as a visual reminder of Uganda’s lush landscapes, the rebrand introduces modernized typography with the Montserrat typeface, which brings clarity, accessibility, and a cohesive look to Greenwatch’s communications across all platforms.
Greenwatch’s new strategy, Greenwatch Litigates, Advocates & Empowers, captures the core pillars of our mission. The term “Litigates” reflects Greenwatch’s commitment to utilizing the legal system to hold accountable those who undermine Ugandans’ fundamental right to a clean and healthy environment. Through public interest environmental litigation, Greenwatch enforces environmental laws, champions climate justice, protects natural resources, and secures the right to a healthy and clean environment for all.
“Advocates” captures the organization’s longstanding role in promoting environmental awareness, influencing policy, and driving positive change through public campaigns, and initiatives. Lastly, “Empowers” emphasizes Greenwatch’s commitment to community engagement, as the organization provides educational resources, outreach programs, training programs, and partnerships to equip with the knowledge and tools to protect their environment and fight against climate change.
This rebrand is about making Greenwatch more effective in its work by increasing visibility and creating a stronger connection with the people and communities we serve. By staying true to our mission and values, we aim to build trust, deepen relationships, and reach more people who share our passion for protecting the environment and advocating for climate justice.
Our rebrand honors the legacy of our late founder, Hon. Justice Kenneth Kakuru, a pioneer in environmental rights advocacy who started this work nearly 30 years ago. Greenwatch remains committed to addressing emerging challenges in environmental conservation and climate change. With our renewed identity, Greenwatch is poised to make an even greater impact, safeguarding the environment for future generations.
