Kenneth KakuruKenneth Kakuru
Advocate and Environmental Activist.

Kenneth Kakuru is an Advocate, a Senior Partner with Kakuru & Company Advocates in Kampala and the Executive Director of Greenwatch. He holds a Master's in Law (LLM) and a Bachelor of Laws Degree(LLB)(Hons.) from Makerere University -Kampala, and a Diploma in Legal Practice from the Law Development Centre. He is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Educational Policy Planning and Development. He is an Associate Professor at the Pentecostal University - Grotius Law School and an external examiner at the Law Development Centre in Kampala.

He specializes in Public Interest Litigation (PIL); has handled many Public Interest Litigation cases concerning Access to Justice and information rights, environmental and Constitutional rights. Decisions that have set precedents in promoting public participation and building environmental jurisprudence have as a result been granted. He has also worked extensively with indigenous groups and environmental organisations at national, regional and international levels and is a member of Professional organisations and Professional Boards including the International Bar Association, the Environmental Law Alliance Worldwide (E-LAW), the East African Law Society, the Uganda Law Society and the Lawyers Envronment Action Team (LEAT) of Tanzania among others.He has authored, written and presented several research papers on environmental law and facilitated at several environmental training workshops for judicial officers, lawyers,Police investigators and State Prosecutors. He serves on various Committees of the National Environment Management Authority (NEMA), and the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP) in Uganda and has participated in the drafting of Sectoral and Framework Legislation for environmental management in Uganda and Tanzania.

 
 

 

Irene K. Ssekyana- National Co-ordinator

Responsibilities:
i) Programme Development:

- Co-ordinating project activities and developing proposals;

- Fundraising for projects in coordination with national institutions, organizations, and appropriate International organisations;

- Identifying new sources of funding and pursuing relationships with new donors;

ii) Programme Monitoring
- Reviewing, and providing feedback to funders, on incoming project reports;

- Ensuring that Greenwatch’s Projects Database and website is regularly updated with accurate and sufficient information;

- Ensuring that a programme-wide timetable for the monitoring and evaluation of projects is developed, maintained and implemented;

iii) Programme Information Management:
- Providing information on programme activities to Greenwatch’s network and donors;

- Maintaining links with other environmental organisations;

Harriet Bibangambah- Research Officer

Harriet holds a Masters Degree in Public Administration and Management from Uganda Management Institute and a BA in Social Sciences from Makerere University

Responsibilities:
- Carrying out field, and desk research work on pertinent issues;
- Identifying new research areas and initiatives
- provide support in a variety of field studies including: analysing data and documenting findings.

- work with communities, community leaders, environmental officers and extension workers in the field to implement research related to the environment.

- writing reports and documenting research findings
