Greenwatch’s budget includes core funding as well as special project funds. Greenwatch owes much of its success to our donor partners who have supported the various activities that we do. We receive financial support from national and international donors to enable us pursue our objectives. Fundraising is done autonomously; most of the funds acquired are specifically allocated to particular projects activities. The organization has in the past received financial support from the following sources:
i) The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation
The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation is a private, independent grantmaking institution dedicated to helping groups and individuals foster lasting improvement in the human condition. Through the support it provides, the Foundation fosters the development of knowledge, nurtures individual creativity, helps strengthen institutions, helps improve public policy, and provides information to the public, primarily through support for public interest media. ii) The Ford Foundation .
The Environmental Law Institute provides information services, advice, publications, training courses, seminars, research programs and policy recommendations to engage and empower environmental leaders the world over. ELI’s audience is leading environmental professionals in government, industry, public interest groups and academia.
Green Grants bridges the gap between those who can offer financial support and grassroots groups in developing countries that can make effective use of that support. We help donors overcome the barriers to grassroots grantmaking by identifying worthy organizations and moving funds at minimal cost.
v) The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) through the Partnership for Development of Environmental Law and Institutions in Africa (PADELIA). This programme seeks to assist African governments in building capacities for the development, strengthening, implementation and harmonization of environmental legislation as well as related institutions for sustainable development and povery reduction.
vi) The World Resources Institute - (Washington, D.C) The World Resources Institute is an environmental think-tank that goes beyond research to create practical ways to protect the Earth and improve people’s lives. Their mission is to move human society to live in ways that protect Earth’s environment for current and future generations.
NEMA is the principal agency in Uganda for the co-ordination and management of environment and natural resources issues. NEMA also monitors and supervises all activities in the field of the environment.
